The Marble Caves @ Puerto Rio Tranquilo

The marble caves are located near Puerto Rio Tranquilo town along the Carretera Austral in Chile. There are organized boat trips leaving from Puerto Rio Tranquilo or you can also do an organized kayak trip which takes longer and costs more.

The boat trip costs 10.000CLP and it is the same price regardless which tour agent you go to. The first trips leave at 8am and can be booked even on the same day at the booking offices located at the port area. The trips will only leave if there are minimum 5 people signed up. I was told the day before that trips are running every 2 hours from 8am so I went there at 10am only to find out that all the trips are finished for the day as there are not enough people for the 10am slots. The agent I talked to called a few other agencies and one of them had the 10am trip on so I got lucky. I joined that group and we were on the water at 10am. The moral of the story is though that don’t be lazy like me go on the 8am trip or you might miss out on it.

The whole boat ride took around 90 minutes and I recommend that you dress warm as you will be on open water for duration of the trip. I read some horror stories online that you will get soaking wet on this boat trip, which turned out to be complete bollocks. Unless it rains, you have nothing to be afraid of. I didn’t even take my camera with me only my phone and my gopro as they are waterproof.

Regardless, this trip was definitely worth the money the caves are beautiful, you have plenty of time to take photos and videos and I was really lucky with the weather too as you can see it on the the video below.
