Laos: How to find the perfect Accommodation in Vang Vieng 2010

There are many guest houses in and around Vang Vieng, depending on your taste and budget you can pick the right one. Our requirement was to find something that is not too noisy and have free WIFI. Now this is a bit of a problem because most guest houses do not offer free WIFI or they do not offer WIFI at all. Having WIFI in room is really a big bonus because most places have it only around the reception area.

The rule is very simple. If you want more of a cheap party accommodation then stay in town around main street. Most places will give you a room for 50-60.000 Kip. If you want something a little more quiet and a bit more pricey you can easily find something besides the river. Accommodations start around 100.000 Kip / night in that area.

The first 3 nights we stayed at the Soutjai Guest House which had OK WIFI in room, the room price was 60.000 Kip ( Fan ) or 100.000 Kip for a room with A/C. There was no fridge or TV in room and it was really noisy due to the bar right in front of it. Perfect place for single girls or boys travelling not too good for couples.

After 3 days we decided that we will look for something besides the river. Again many places do not have WIFI but have excellent views over the river. If you decide to stay in this area the best to go further on this road because there are many other guest houses about a 5 minutes walk on the same street. Do not let the massive amount of restaurants and bars scare you away 🙂

We finally settled at the Champa Lao Villas, very nice rooms, lovely little garden, hammocks, all over the place and free WIFI 🙂 It is really an island of peace with dogs and cats walking around and all that home like feeling. A standard room is 100.000Kip / night and the receptionist who actually also lives there is speaking excellent english. A bit funny was the house rules though… That’s ok that we shouldn’t bring drugs and prostitutes in the room and shouldn’t have political gathering either 😀 but having to ban a sexual intercourse in the room … now that is a bit funny 😀
