Perito Moreno city lies on Ruta 40 just in between Bariloche and El Calafate and it is not to be confused with the glacier which is also Called Perito Moreno. This town is a popular place to stay overnight for those traveling Ruta 40 all the way up or down. It has a good few hotels and restaurants where you can stay and eat. Tourists usually arrive in the evening and leave the next morning.
There are two petrol stations in town the Petrobas one is located right at the main roundabout right next to the bus station and it has basic food services. The YPF one is located in town that is a very small one with no services apart from filling up your car.
Most businesses are built around the main road and since it is a very small city everything is walking distance. Claro and Movistar has mobile coverage in and around town, Claro even has 4G coverage which is quite good. I bought my Claro sim here from the official Claro shop. There are also ATMs in Perito Moreno located on the main street. There is a tourist office in town unfortunately I wasn’t able to learn more about the city as nobody spoke English.
We passed through Perito Moreno twice and stayed overnight at the first time lodging at Hotel Kelman on the main street. The hotel has a good parking area, free WIFI, they also run a restaurant in the building and there is a supermarket on the opposite side of the street so it is an ideal location to do an overnight stay. Their restaurant quality needs improving though, at the time of our stay they were looking for a full time chef, I seriously hope that they have found one…
