Kuang Si Waterfalls are about 29 km south of Luang Prabang. We decided to rent a motorbike for the day and drive to the waterfalls. The journey took us about 40 minutes and the road conditions are quite OK.
There are many stalls just at the entrance with cheap food and all sorts of merchandise. The motorbike parking ( supposedly guarded ) was 2.000 Kip.
The entrance fee to the waterfalls is 20.000 Kip / person and it well worth the money. There is a bear rescue center very close to the entrance and the waterfalls are only 10 minutes walk away. This is a beautiful place there are small pools created by the river everywhere and it is perfectly safe to swim. Also there are wooden changing rooms all over the place so no need to drive all the way from Luang Prabang in bathing suit 🙂
It is also possible to hike up to the top of the waterfall however it is VERY steep and can be dangerous after a few rainy days. There is not really much to see on the top of the hill because of the lush vegetation unless you dare to walk into the river and try to see the waterfall from the top.
