Bee’s Knees Brewpub Samui – Where craft beer lives!

We were spending New Year’s eve on Chaweng. This is when I saw on Samui Online Food Guide that there is a recently opened craft beer pub+brewery brewing beer locally. One thing I was missing from the beautiful island of Samui is craft beer. Back home whenever I drink beer it has to be craft beer. Needless to say I was very excited to try their brews.

It was a little complicated to find the place as forums say that it is right after Ice Bar on Chaweng Beach, which is true apart from the fact that it is “right after” if you are driving real fast. It is across the road from GT Car Wash on the right hand side and it is about 1-2 minutes drive from Ice bar. If you decide to walk let’s say from Ark bar it will be about a 20 minutes to get there.

Jim the owner is a very nice, talkative guy. He is from the UK originally and he is working on the brews, the pub and the location for about 2 years now. We were chatting for about an hour and he introduced me to his beer repertoire. He currently brews four different kinds of beers:

– Summer Bee – A pilsner style lager. Way better than pils or lager. It has a distinctive strong taste and unexpectedly smooth finish. I would recommend this beer to anyone who prefer to freshen up after a long day at the beach.

– Wheaty Bee – Soft Fruit flavour. I am not a wheat beer person at all. I used to drink Hoegaarden and german weizen beers back in the day but that was long time ago. This beer however with its extremely fruity taste and scent was very enjoyable and the most surprising of it all. It got me and I think I will have to forget whatever I thought about wheat beer beforehand. If you are not a beer drinker it is highly recommended for anyone who otherwise would prefer fruity Californian or Australian rose wine. This will be a lovely introduction to the world of beers.

– Bitter Bee – English Style bitter beer. A high end English Ale. Perfect colour and taste combination. Smooth and easy to drink and just the way I like it.

– Black Bee – Chocolate Coffee Porter – Fantastic chocolate & coffee taste. It is a must to taste for all porter and dark beer lovers. No chocolate or coffee added.

Finally I had the chance to taste the combination of Black Bee & Bitter Bee. “HalfHalf” combining the taste of these two beauties bringing the best of the two worlds to your tastebuds.

If you want to break out of the Chang, Leo, Singha triangle, Bee’s Knees Brewpub is the perfect place to go. All beers are between 4.0 and 4.5 ABV so they can be enjoyed without getting too drunk too early. They are only open for 5 weeks and I hope they will be a great success as this was a much needed service on Koh Samui. Finally please see the photos I took @ the time of my visit.
