Thailand: White Sand Beach on Koh Chang

The east coast of Koh Chang is very quiet not many resorts if you are looking to get away from it all that would be the place to go. The west coast where White Sand Beach is offers a lot more in terms of accommodation, nightlife the Nothern part of the west coast being the most busy and the Southern part is more of a quiet place. We drove all the way around the island to see what it has to offer 🙂

White Sand Beach is the most popular tourist destination on Koh Chang. If you are looking for excellent nightlife, many restaurants to pick from, and a 2km long sandy beach this is your location. This is also the closest resort to the Ferry arrival point.

The accommodation prices greatly vary across the city. You can have bungalows for 400 Bath / day and up on the right side of the main street. Bungalows on the beach will cost you around 500 Bath / day with minimum amenities. For this you will have to walk up the beach from the KS Resort as there are a couple of resorts that you can only reach by walking. These are Rock Sand Beach, Independent Bo’s, Chang’s, etc. These are also the popular backpacker accommodations. The good thing about these that there is not a big difference between low season and high season prices.

If you would like to have something in town and close to the beach that will cost you a lot more money. The low season prices for a seaview, hot water, free wifi bungalow is starting at 800 Bath a day. I can imagine that the prices will double or even triple for the High Season.

Taking one of the shiny new high priced hotels in town is not recommended as you will pay for everything really. No free wifi, everything inside the resort costs double and the occasional free breakfast is not worth the money. Most of the staff speaks very poor english so it is quite a job to get your message across. Personally I do not want to feel like being in a 3 star Spanish hotel while I am traveling Thailand…

The basic rule is never enter a hotel that doesn’t offer free wifi 🙂 This way you will know if the owner is a greedy arsehole wanting to charge you for every extra. It will not cost more to the owner to let you use his internet connection which is there already anyway.

Tip: High Seasons usually starts in November and ends around April.
