We were going to see a couple of cities on the way and initially wanted to go all the way by train but due to the weather conditions we decided to pay a higher price and take the plane directly to Hanoi.
We were delayed one day because landslides took out the road to the airport luckily this problem was sorted out in 24 hours so we could leave the next day.
The plane ticket was 3.388.000 Dong for both of us the journey takes about and hour and a half it really was a treat compared to the train journey that takes around 24 hours.
One interesting thing is that we had to show the baggage tickets that was attached to our boarding passes and they have checked if we are really carrying our own bags out of the baggage claim area. Actually this is a very good system I am not sure though if it was working on chaotic airports like Amsterdam Schiphol or London Heathrow.
We had to get to the old town of the city which is really complicated to reach from the airport bus stop so We had to take a taxi, now this is where we had to be extra careful. Other travellers were saying that they were scammed into paying $200 for the ride to the city. So we went to the information desk and asked what taxi company to take.
We finally managed to get for $15 to the old town which would be the standard price for this trip observing that it is a 40 minutes ride as the airport is quite far out from the city center.
