There are several ways to get from Ho Chi Minh to Nha Trang:
– Train Reunification Express it takes about 8-9 hours
– Sleeping Bus takes about 12 hours ( yuk )
– Airplane
We took option one. It did cost us 199.000 VND / person to get to Tha Trang. We booked 2 standard A/C soft seats as we were leaving 13:30 in the afternoon so there as no need for a sleeping car.
We expected breathtaking scenery on the way but it was really nothing special, by the time we got down to to the coast it already got dark so we didn’t see anything. The only power outlets on the train are at the 2 entrances of the carriage which is really inconvenient if you would like to use your laptop on the train. We managed to swap places with a guy he was kind enough to switch with us.
There are flat screen TVs in each carriage showing local soaps and american movies provided by HBO.
The carriages were really dirty as well as the toilettes, the water run out at half of our journey so in total it wasn’t a pleasant journey at all.
We got to Nha Trang around 21:30. Many taxis are waiting for tourists at the railway station and the ride to our hotel which was at the main entertainment area was $5. There is no shortage of hotels in the area it is really easy to find cheap accommodation.
