We booked this trip through one of the travel agents by the river, We shopped around for a while but it seemed that the prices are pretty similar everywhere. There were several options to choose from from a 45 seat bigger bus for $9 to the smaller 25 person bus with 3 seat rows instead of 4 to maximize comfort for $11-15. We took the 25 person one for $11 and it was worth every penny. Big seats similar to business class seats on an airplane. It was very comfortable.
The journey took about 5-6 hours and the bus left at 7:30 in the morning. A tuk tuk driver picked us up at the hotel for free and took us to the station where the bus was waiting.
The other very good thing was that this time there was no bus change. The bus took us from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City directly however We had to get all our bags from the bus and walk through the border with them into Vietnam then load them to the bus baggage hold again.
The first stop in Ho Chi Minh City is the major backpacker area with many hotels, bars and restaurants which is a very good thing as you will not need to take a cab to get to this area.
